Wildlife passage / Weir at Langebro

Gudenå River has been dammed up at the present Langebro in Silkeborg since sometime in the Middle Ages. For centuries there has been a water mill here and later Silkeborg Paper Mill. In 1844, the mill was closed and water power was used exclusively to run the factory’s machinery.

The paper mill closed in 2000 and the dam was removed. This opened up the possibility of establishing a long-awaited wildlife passage for fish and other small animals. The passage was opened in June 2003. At 90 metres, it is the longest of its kind in Denmark.

WINTEC supplied and installed the three large lock gates that regulate the water level.

WINTEC has an operation and service agreement with Silkeborg Municipality on the three lock gates and the canoe sluice.
